Our theme: Standing Up and Speaking Up for Public Education!
We gathered this August 27, 2022 under the tents and picnic shelter at the Christiansburg Moose Lodge. We came together to combat racism, to speak up and stand up for public education, a hallmark of our great American democracy. The theme was public education, one of our greatest strengths and contributions to the free world.

Steve Cochran
“Why Voting is So Important to Stand Up and Speak Up for Public Education,” an educational presentation about the May 2022 Virginia Department of Education Report that says, “Virginia’s Current State: Lower Expectations, Wider Gaps, and Lack of Transparency.”

Summer Summit Basics
People brought chairs and water to stay hydrated because it was summer in the New River Valley. Sheltered seating in the Moose Lodge picnic shelter was enjoyed. Some brought an umbrella to sit in the open.
We did not serve food this time due to COVID restrictions, but did provide iced bottled water.
We encouraged but didn’t require vaccinations as well as masks. Many organizers wore their masks, following state and federal guidelines as of August 27, 2022.
We enjoyed reconnecting and being together again in person.
